Same-day care

Emergency dentist in Oakland, FL

Pain and broken teeth don't keep business hours. We hold room in the schedule so you're not waiting a week.

A dental emergency is the one appointment nobody plans for, and it's also the one where a delay costs the most. A cracked tooth that gets seen the same day is often a filling or a crown. The same tooth two weeks later can be a root canal or an extraction.

West Orange Dental Studio keeps room in the daily schedule for exactly this. If you call or text and something is genuinely urgent, the goal is to get you in that day rather than into a queue.

If you're not sure whether what you have counts as an emergency, call and describe it. That's a free conversation and we'd rather have it than have you guess.

What counts as a dental emergency

Treat it as urgent if you have constant throbbing pain, pain with facial swelling, a fever alongside tooth pain, a bad taste from something draining, a pimple-like bump on the gum, a tooth that's been knocked out, or pain that over-the-counter medication isn't touching. Those all mean something active is happening, and time changes the outcome.

Some things feel alarming and can reasonably wait a day or two: a lost filling with no pain, a small chip that isn't sharp, mild sensitivity to cold that fades in seconds, or a broken retainer. Call anyway so we can put you in the right slot, but you don't need to panic.

One category skips us entirely. If swelling is affecting your eye, your throat, your breathing, or your ability to swallow, go to an emergency room now. That's an airway concern, not a dental appointment. Orlando Health Central on W Colonial Drive in Ocoee is the closest hospital to the studio.

What to do before you get here

For a knocked-out permanent tooth, handle it by the crown and never the root, rinse it gently if it's dirty, and try to reseat it in the socket. If that isn't possible, keep it in milk or in your own saliva and get to us fast. The window where reimplantation works well is measured in tens of minutes, not hours.

For a broken or chipped tooth, rinse with warm water, use a cold compress on the outside of the face, and keep any fragments. For a lost crown, keep the crown, don't try to glue it back with household adhesive, and avoid chewing on that side.

For severe pain, over-the-counter anti-inflammatories usually help more than painkillers alone, and a cold compress helps more than heat. Do not put aspirin directly against the gum. It burns the tissue and does nothing for the tooth.

What emergency dental care costs

Getting seen and diagnosed is the affordable part. A limited, problem-focused emergency exam with a first X-ray at West Orange Dental Studio runs about 150 to 200 dollars, so that's where most emergency visits start before any treatment. Palliative treatment to settle the pain on the day runs 175 to 225 dollars, and a visit outside our scheduled hours runs 250 to 300 dollars.

Treatment is the part that varies, because the same symptom can be a small problem or a large one. To give you the honest spread: a simple extraction runs 275 to 325 dollars, draining an abscess 350 to 425 dollars, root canal treatment on a molar 1,450 to 1,700 dollars, and a porcelain crown 1,550 to 1,800 dollars.

You get the actual figure for your situation after the exam and before we start, in writing. Nobody finds out what treatment cost by reading the bill afterward.

What moves the number

  • Whether the tooth needs a filling, a crown, root canal treatment, or extraction
  • How many X-rays are needed to see the problem
  • Whether infection is present and needs to be drained
  • Whether we settle the pain now and do the definitive work later
  • Whether the visit falls outside our scheduled hours
  • Your dental insurance benefits and remaining annual maximum

These are our own fee ranges, before insurance, current as of August 2026. They are ranges because no two cases are identical: materials, complexity, and what we find on examination all move the number. Your exact fee is confirmed in a written treatment plan before anything begins.

Common questions

Can I get a same-day dental appointment near Winter Garden?

Yes. West Orange Dental Studio holds room in the daily schedule for urgent cases, so a same-day appointment is usually possible for genuine emergencies. Call or text (407) 205-2468 and describe what's happening. The studio is at 136 Southern Railway Ste B, Oakland, FL 34787, about 8 minutes west of downtown Winter Garden.

When should I go to the emergency room instead of a dentist?

Go to an emergency room if swelling is affecting your eye, throat, breathing, or ability to swallow, or if you have significant facial trauma. Those are airway and trauma concerns that a dental office isn't equipped for. Almost everything else, including severe toothache, abscess, and broken teeth, is better handled by a dentist.

What should I do if I knock out a tooth?

Pick the tooth up by the crown and never by the root, rinse it gently if it's dirty, and try to place it back in the socket. If you can't, keep it in milk or saliva, never in water, and get to a dentist immediately. The chance of saving a knocked-out permanent tooth drops sharply after the first hour.

Is a lost filling or crown an emergency?

Usually not a true emergency, but it shouldn't be left. An exposed tooth is vulnerable to decay and fracture, and the longer it goes the more likely the fix becomes a crown rather than a re-cement. Keep the crown if you have it, avoid chewing on that side, and call for the next available appointment.

How much does an emergency dental visit cost?

At West Orange Dental Studio a limited emergency exam with an X-ray runs about 150 to 200 dollars, so that's where an emergency visit starts before treatment. Palliative treatment to settle pain on the day runs 175 to 225 dollars, and a visit outside scheduled hours 250 to 300 dollars. Treatment cost depends on what the exam finds, and you get your exact figure in writing before anything begins.

Do you see emergency patients who aren't already patients of record?

Yes. West Orange Dental Studio sees emergency patients whether or not they've been seen here before. There's no requirement to be an established patient to be treated for something urgent.

Can I take painkillers before my appointment?

Yes, and over-the-counter anti-inflammatories such as ibuprofen usually help dental pain more than acetaminophen alone, assuming you can take them safely. Do not place aspirin directly against the gum, which burns the tissue without helping the tooth. Tell us what you've taken and when you arrive.

Treatment here is planned and carried out by Dr. Clayton Little, DMD, who owns West Orange Dental Studio. For questions about the studio itself, see the full FAQ.
