Professional teeth whitening in Oakland, FL
A real shade change, done safely, on teeth we've checked first. Free for life for every founding member.
Whitening works by getting peroxide into the tooth, where it breaks apart the pigmented molecules that have accumulated in the enamel and dentin over years of coffee, tea, red wine, and time. The tooth doesn't get bleached in the laundry sense. The stain molecules get broken into smaller, colorless ones.
That mechanism is the same whether the peroxide comes from a supermarket strip or a dental office. What differs is concentration, contact, and supervision, and those three things account for most of the gap in results.
For our founding members, every new patient who books before we open, professional whitening is complimentary for life, with free touch-ups for as long as you're a patient.
Why professional whitening outperforms strips
Concentration is the obvious part. Over-the-counter strips carry low-percentage peroxide by regulation. Dentist-supervised gel is stronger, which is why a supervised course produces a shade change that a drugstore box usually can't match.
Contact is the underrated part. A strip is a flat piece of plastic laid over a curved arch, so the gel pools on the flat surfaces and misses the gaps between teeth and the curve near the gumline. Custom trays are made from a scan of your actual teeth, so the gel sits everywhere it needs to and nowhere it shouldn't.
Supervision is the part that matters clinically. Whitening an untreated cavity, a cracked tooth, or exposed root surface hurts and can do damage. Whitening over a crown or a veneer does nothing, because those materials don't respond, which is how people end up with natural teeth several shades lighter than the front crown they'd forgotten about. An exam first prevents both.
Sensitivity, results, and how long it lasts
Temporary sensitivity is the most common side effect and it's usually manageable rather than a reason to stop. It comes from peroxide moving through the dentinal tubules, it typically settles within a day or two of finishing, and desensitizing gel or a potassium nitrate toothpaste in the weeks beforehand reduces it substantially. Tell us if you're already sensitive and we'll adjust the protocol rather than push through it.
Not all discoloration responds equally. Yellow-toned staining from food, drink, and age responds well. Grey tones, tetracycline staining from childhood antibiotics, and a single dark tooth from past trauma respond poorly or not at all, and those are cases where bonding or veneers do what whitening can't.
Results last roughly one to three years depending mostly on what you drink and whether you smoke. Touch-ups with the trays you already have will hold it, which is the practical advantage of the take-home system over a one-off in-office session.

What teeth whitening costs
In-office professional whitening at West Orange Dental Studio runs 450 to 550 dollars per arch, so roughly 900 to 1,100 dollars to do top and bottom together. Custom take-home trays run 375 to 425 dollars per arch, around 750 to 850 dollars for both, and that includes the trays themselves and the gel.
Take-home is the better value for most people, and not only because it's cheaper. You keep the trays, and a refill of whitening gel is 25 to 50 dollars, so maintaining the result for years costs very little. Desensitizing gel, if you need it, is a similarly small add-on.
A single discolored tooth is priced differently: external whitening on one tooth runs 300 to 375 dollars, and internal whitening for a tooth that darkened after root canal treatment runs 400 to 475 dollars.
Whitening is cosmetic, so dental insurance doesn't cover it. It is, however, the treatment our opening offer is built on: every new patient who books before opening day becomes a founding member and receives professional whitening free for life, with touch-ups included for as long as they're a patient. That's most of a thousand dollars of treatment up front and the refills after it.
What moves the number
- In-office treatment versus custom take-home trays, or both
- One arch or both
- Whole-mouth whitening versus a single discolored tooth
- Whether the discoloration is on the surface or inside the tooth
- Whether existing crowns or veneers need replacing to match
These are our own fee ranges, before insurance, current as of August 2026. They are ranges because no two cases are identical: materials, complexity, and what we find on examination all move the number. Your exact fee is confirmed in a written treatment plan before anything begins.
Common questions
How much does professional teeth whitening cost?
At West Orange Dental Studio in-office whitening runs 450 to 550 dollars per arch and custom take-home trays 375 to 425 dollars per arch including the trays and gel, so whitening both arches is roughly 900 to 1,100 dollars in office or 750 to 850 dollars at home. Gel refills are 25 to 50 dollars. Whitening is cosmetic so insurance doesn't cover it, but every new patient who books before opening day receives it free for life.
Are whitening strips safe?
Used as directed on healthy teeth, over-the-counter strips are generally safe, though they commonly cause temporary sensitivity and gum irritation. The real risk is using them on an undiagnosed problem: whitening over an untreated cavity, a crack, or exposed root surface can hurt and can cause damage. They also do nothing to crowns or veneers.
How long does teeth whitening last?
Typically one to three years, depending mainly on diet and smoking. Coffee, tea, red wine, and tobacco shorten it considerably. Custom take-home trays make maintenance straightforward, since a short touch-up with the trays you already have restores the result without starting over.
Does whitening work on crowns and veneers?
No. Porcelain and composite do not respond to peroxide, so existing crowns, veneers, and fillings stay exactly the shade they were made. This matters most for front teeth: whitening natural teeth around an older crown can leave the crown looking noticeably darker, and matching may then require replacing it.
Will whitening make my teeth sensitive?
Temporary sensitivity is common and usually settles within a day or two of finishing treatment. Using a potassium nitrate toothpaste in the weeks beforehand, applying desensitizing gel, and spacing sessions out all reduce it. Tell us in advance if your teeth are already sensitive so we can adjust the protocol.
What causes teeth to yellow in the first place?
Two things at once. Extrinsic staining from coffee, tea, red wine, and tobacco accumulates on the enamel surface. Intrinsic change happens as enamel thins with age and the naturally yellower dentin underneath shows through more. Whitening addresses both to a degree, but it works better on the first than the second.
Can whitening fix a single dark tooth?
Usually not well. A single darkened tooth is often the result of past trauma or previous root canal treatment, and its discoloration comes from inside the tooth rather than the surface. Internal bleaching, bonding, or a veneer are the usual options, and which one fits depends on why the tooth darkened.
