Tooth extractions in Oakland, FL

Extractions handled at the studio with comfort options, and an honest answer when the tooth can be saved instead.

Extraction is the treatment nobody hopes for, and the one where the most important conversation happens before anything is removed. A tooth that can be restored usually should be, because nothing replaces a natural root as well as the root itself.

When a tooth genuinely cannot be saved, taking it out promptly is better than waiting. A tooth left to fracture further or to keep an infection going makes everything that follows harder, including the implant or bridge that may replace it.

West Orange Dental Studio performs simple and surgical extractions in-house, wisdom teeth included, with comfort options available during the visit. If you are not sure what a tooth needs, that is exactly what the exam is for. We take images, evaluate your concerns, and determine the treatment that fits your situation before anything is decided.

When a tooth cannot be saved

The clear cases are decay that extends below the bone level, a vertical fracture running down the root, severe bone loss from advanced gum disease, and a failed root canal that retreatment cannot rescue. In each of those the tooth has lost the structure or the support that would let a restoration hold.

The less clear cases are the ones worth a second opinion, and we will give you ours honestly. A tooth with a large old filling and a crack is often restorable with a crown. A tooth with an abscess is frequently saveable with root canal treatment. Extraction is quicker and cheaper in the moment, and occasionally that makes it the tempting recommendation rather than the right one.

If a tooth is coming out and an implant may follow, the decision to graft the socket is made at the same appointment. Bone starts resorbing as soon as the tooth is gone, so preserving the site during the extraction is far easier than rebuilding it a year later.

Wisdom teeth

Wisdom teeth cause more worry than almost any other tooth, and a good number of them turn out to need nothing at all. Whether yours do depends on how they are positioned, whether they can be kept clean, and what the surrounding bone looks like, none of which is visible in a bathroom mirror.

An exam with 3D imaging answers that in a single visit. We look at each tooth, evaluate your concerns, and determine the best treatment for your situation, whether that means removal now, keeping an eye on it, or leaving it alone. A wisdom tooth that is causing recurring pain or infection, or decaying because a toothbrush cannot reach it, is handled here like any other extraction.

Come in and get looked at before you assume the worst. Most people arrive worried about one thing and leave with a clear plan that covers everything, and you will know exactly where you stand and what your options are before a single appointment is scheduled.

Recovery, and the one complication worth knowing about

Expect swelling that peaks around day two or three, soreness for several days, and a return to normal eating over roughly a week. Ice for the first day, then warmth. Soft food, no straws, no smoking, and no vigorous rinsing for the first 24 hours.

The reason for the no-straw rule is dry socket, which happens when the blood clot protecting the socket is dislodged before the site has healed. It is not dangerous but it is genuinely painful, usually announcing itself three to five days after surgery with a deep ache that the first days' soreness had already started to settle from. It is treatable, and it is largely preventable by following the first-day instructions properly.

Smoking is the single largest risk factor. If you are going to stop for anything, stop for the week after an extraction.

What this includes at our studio

  • Simple extractions
  • Surgical extractions, where the tooth needs sectioning or the gum opened
  • Wisdom tooth evaluation with 3D imaging, and removal where it is warranted
  • Nitrous oxide and minimal oral sedation for comfort
  • Socket preservation grafting where an implant may follow
  • An honest assessment of whether the tooth could be saved instead
  • Written aftercare and a direct line if something is not going to plan

What an extraction costs

Extraction is priced by how much work the tooth actually takes. At West Orange Dental Studio a straightforward erupted tooth runs 275 to 325 dollars. A surgical extraction, where the tooth needs sectioning or the gum opened to reach it, runs 400 to 475 dollars.

Comfort options are separate. Nitrous oxide runs 125 to 150 dollars and wears off within minutes, so you can drive yourself home. Minimal oral sedation is a single tablet you take about an hour before your appointment, and it runs 400 to 475 dollars. You'll need someone to drive you both ways. Plenty of extractions are comfortable with local anesthetic alone and cost nothing extra.

If an implant may follow, ridge preservation grafting to keep the socket intact runs 850 to 1,000 dollars and is done at the same appointment. It is considerably cheaper than rebuilding the site later.

Insurance covers extractions more reliably than most other treatment, often at 50 to 80 percent, since removal is usually classified as basic or major rather than elective.

What moves the number

  • Simple versus surgical extraction
  • How many teeth are removed in one visit
  • Whether sedation is used, and for how long
  • Whether socket preservation grafting is done at the same time
  • Your dental insurance benefits and remaining annual maximum

These are our own fee ranges, before insurance, current as of August 2026. They are ranges because no two cases are identical: materials, complexity, and what we find on examination all move the number. Your exact fee is confirmed in a written treatment plan before anything begins.

Common questions

How much does a tooth extraction cost?

At West Orange Dental Studio a straightforward erupted tooth runs 275 to 325 dollars and a surgical extraction 400 to 475 dollars. Nitrous oxide runs 125 to 150 dollars and minimal oral sedation 400 to 475 dollars. Insurance covers the extraction itself more reliably than most other treatment.

Do you remove wisdom teeth?

Yes. West Orange Dental Studio removes wisdom teeth, and the first step is always an exam with 3D imaging so you know what you are actually dealing with. Plenty of wisdom teeth need nothing done at all. We evaluate each tooth and your concerns, determine the best treatment for your situation, and walk you through comfort options before anything is scheduled.

Can my tooth be saved instead of extracted?

Often, yes, and it is worth asking. West Orange Dental Studio will tell you honestly when a crown, root canal treatment, or retreatment could keep the tooth, because nothing replaces a natural root as well as the root itself. Extraction is the right answer when decay extends below the bone, the root is fractured vertically, or the supporting bone is gone.

How long does recovery from an extraction take?

Swelling usually peaks around day two or three and most people are back to normal eating within about a week, with the socket continuing to fill in over the following weeks. Surgical extractions take longer to settle than simple ones.

What is dry socket and how do I avoid it?

Dry socket occurs when the blood clot protecting an extraction site is dislodged before healing, exposing bone. It typically appears three to five days after surgery as a deep, worsening ache. Avoiding it comes down to the first day: no straws, no smoking, no vigorous rinsing, and no spitting. Smoking is the largest single risk factor.

Will I be sedated?

That is up to you. West Orange Dental Studio offers nitrous oxide, often called laughing gas, and minimal oral sedation, and many extractions are comfortable with local anesthetic alone. Nitrous oxide is the common choice for anyone who is simply anxious: it takes effect in a few minutes and clears just as fast, so you can drive yourself home afterward. Oral sedation is a tablet you take about an hour before the appointment, so it needs a ride both ways.

What can I eat after an extraction?

Soft, cool, non-crunchy food for the first day or two: yogurt, smoothies eaten with a spoon rather than a straw, eggs, mashed potatoes, soup that is not hot. Avoid anything with small seeds or grains that can lodge in the socket, and reintroduce normal food as comfort allows over the following week.

Should I replace the tooth after it is removed?

Usually yes, and the decision is worth making early. The jawbone begins resorbing as soon as a tooth is gone, and neighbouring teeth drift into the gap, so both a dental implant and a bridge get harder the longer the space is left. Socket preservation grafting at the time of extraction keeps the options open.
